ATS CV SCREENING TOOL

WHAT IS ATS?

ATS screening refers to how companies use an Applicant Tracking System to automatically review and filter job applications. Normally before a human recruiter sees them. In simple terms an ATS is software that scans your resume to decide if you’re a good match for a job. It is used in most industries including motorsport.

WHAT IS AN ATS FILTER LOOKING FOR?

When your resume is submitted, the ATS checks for things like:

  • Keywords from the job description (skills, tools, job titles)
  • Work experience (relevance, years, roles)
  • Education and certifications
  • Formatting (simple, readable structure)

The video below will explain the ATS system in more detail.

ATS TOOL STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Download and paste the full job description into your chosen AI tool. (Chat GBT, Gemini, Co-Pilot etc) Ensure it  includes things like key responsibilities, required skills, preferred skills, tools, certifications, and experience level.

Use this Prompt:

”Act as an ATS screening tool. Extract the most important keywords, skills, tools, qualifications, and experience requirements from this job description. Group them by priority: must-have, nice-to-have, and repeated keywords.”

After your AI Tool has analysed the job description, upload a copy of your CV and use the following prompt:

1) Compare my resume against this job description like an ATS. Identify matching keywords, missing keywords, weak areas, and likely screening concerns.

2) Give my resume an ATS match score out of 100 for this job. Explain the score by category: skills, experience, education, keywords, formatting, and job-title alignment.

3) List the exact keywords from the job description that are missing or underrepresented in my resume. Only suggest keywords that honestly match my experience.

4) Rewrite my resume bullet points to better align with this job description while keeping them truthful, achievement-based, and ATS-friendly. (XYZ Method)

5) Review my resume for ATS formatting issues. Flag anything that may not parse well, such as tables, columns, graphics, unusual headings, icons, or inconsistent dates.

6) Create an ATS-friendly skills section using keywords from the job description and my actual experience

Once the above has been completed use the following prompt:

Now perform a final ATS screening review. Tell me whether this resume is likely to pass the first screen, what still needs improvement, and the top 5 changes I should make.”

ATS systems compare resumes against specific job postings, so repeat this process for each application.

Important: AI tools can simulate ATS screening, but it cannot guarantee how a company’s actual ATS will rank your CV. This process is aimed at increasing the likelyhood of you CV making past this screening stage but will not gaurentee you landing an interview.
