SILVERSTONE INTERNATIONAL RACE REPORT – 2027 SEASON FINALE
SILVERSTONE INTERNATIONAL RACE REPORT - 2027 SEASON FINALE
The Pitlane Development Race Team returned to Silverstone for the final round of the 2026 BRSCC City Car Cup season, bringing an eventful campaign to a close.
With Reuben Lowe returning to the driving seat of the #25 Peugeot 107, the team headed into the weekend determined to finish the season positively, build on the progress made throughout the year, and demonstrate the development of both the car and the team.
The weekend also provided an opportunity for our aspiring motorsport engineers and mechanics to put their skills to the test away from the circuit, as Pitlane Development entered the Student Motorsport Pit Stop Challenge for the very first time.
FRIDAY - FREE PRACTICE
Friday provided an important opportunity for Reuben Lowe to get back behind the wheel of the #25 Peugeot 107 following his absence from the previous round at Snetterton.
The team participated in three 30-minute practice sessions around the Silverstone International circuit, focusing on driver confidence, car setup and finding improvements in lap time ahead of Sunday’s competitive running.
Throughout the day, Reuben demonstrated consistent progress, improving his lap times as he became increasingly comfortable with the car and circuit. The engineering team worked closely with Reuben between sessions, reviewing feedback and making adjustments to further refine the car’s handling and overall performance.
Encouragingly, all three sessions were completed without any on-track incidents or mechanical problems, allowing the team to maximise its running time and gather valuable information. It was a clean and productive Friday, providing a strong foundation heading into the final race day of the season.
SATURDAY - PITSTOP CHALLENGE DAY
With no scheduled on-track activity for the team on Saturday, attention shifted away from outright lap times and towards an entirely different motorsport discipline: the Student Motorsport Pit Stop Challenge.
The challenge tests the teamwork, communication, coordination and practical abilities of participating teams, requiring competitors to complete a simulated pit stop against the clock.
Rather than focusing on driver performance, the competition places the spotlight firmly on the mechanics and engineers, demonstrating the importance of precision, preparation and effective teamwork in a high-pressure motorsport environment.
For Pitlane Development, this represented another valuable learning opportunity for our Trackside Pass holders, allowing them to develop practical skills and experience the pressure of working against the clock.
The team dedicated much of Saturday to practising, refining their procedures, improving communication and identifying opportunities to reduce their overall time.
Pitlane Development recorded a time of 3:00.20, securing an impressive 5th place overall in the team standings.
For our first-ever attempt at the Student Motorsport Pit Stop Challenge, this was a fantastic achievement and a testament to the dedication of everyone involved. The result demonstrated just how far the team has progressed throughout its first season, with individuals who began the year developing their practical motorsport knowledge now working together confidently as a race team.
Most importantly, it reinforced the core purpose of Pitlane Development: providing aspiring motorsport professionals with genuine opportunities to learn, develop and demonstrate their abilities in a competitive environment.
SUNDAY - QUAL, RACE 1 AND RACE 2
Sunday marked the final competitive day of the 2026 season, with qualifying and two races scheduled around the Silverstone International circuit. Following a productive Friday, the team was confident in the car’s reliability and keen to translate its preparation into a positive result.
QUALIFYING – P11
Qualifying proved to be a relatively straightforward session for Reuben, with plenty of clean air allowing him to focus on setting consistent lap times without significant interference from traffic.
With the car performing reliably, Reuben was able to build his pace throughout the session and establish a competitive baseline for the races ahead.
He ultimately secured P11 in class with a best lap time of 1:31.905, putting the team in a position to challenge for places during the afternoon’s racing. Although there was still performance to find, the team was encouraged by the clean session and looked ahead to Race 1 with confidence.
RACE 1 – P10
Race 1 saw Reuben make a positive start, settling into the action and looking for opportunities to progress through the field.
With several close battles taking place around the circuit, Reuben demonstrated good racecraft, completing clean overtakes and capitalising on opportunities as they presented themselves.
Incidents involving competitors further up the order also influenced the race, allowing the #25 Peugeot 107 to move forward in the overall standings. Importantly, Reuben kept the car out of trouble, maintaining a consistent rhythm and bringing the car home without incident.
The team secured P10 in class, with a fastest race lap of 1:32.850, marking a positive opening race at the final event of the season. With one race remaining, attention turned to extracting every last bit of performance from the car and finishing the championship on a high.
RACE 2 – P9 IN CLASS AND A FASTEST LAP OF THE WEEKEND
Before the final race of the season, the team took part in the grid walk, providing an opportunity to capture some fantastic team photographs and reflect on the journey undertaken throughout 2026.
For many of our Trackside Pass holders, standing on the grid alongside the car they had helped prepare and maintain throughout the season was a particularly rewarding moment. Once the grid was cleared and racing got underway, Reuben delivered another clean and consistent performance.
Much like Race 1, the focus was on maintaining a strong pace, taking advantage of opportunities and ensuring the car reached the chequered flag. As the race progressed, Reuben continued to demonstrate the improvements made throughout the weekend, ultimately producing his quickest lap of the entire event.
A 1:31.367 represented a new personal best for the weekend, over half a second quicker than his qualifying lap.
Reuben crossed the line to secure P9 in class, bringing Pitlane Development’s debut City Car Cup campaign to a positive conclusion.
A SEASON OF DEVELOPMENT
The chequered flag at Silverstone marked the end of Pitlane Development’s first full season competing in the BRSCC City Car Cup.
While outright results have never been the sole measure of success for the programme, the progress made throughout 2026 has been significant. From preparing and operating our own race car to developing aspiring engineers and mechanics in a live competitive environment, the season has provided invaluable experiences for everyone involved.
The team has faced challenges, overcome setbacks and continued to improve with every race weekend. Most importantly, it has demonstrated that Pitlane Development can provide a genuine pathway into motorsport, combining education, practical experience and competitive racing within a professional team environment.
Ollie Walsh, Founder and Director of Pitlane Development, reflected on the team’s first season:
What a year it's been! When we started this programme, the goal was never simply to go racing. It was to create an environment where aspiring motorsport engineers and mechanics could gain genuine experience, develop their skills and become part of a working race team. We've had our fair share of challenges this season, from accidents and mechanical setbacks to the pressures of running a race team, but that's exactly what motorsport is about. Every challenge has been an opportunity to learn, and I'm incredibly proud of how everyone has responded. I want to say a massive thank you to every single person who has contributed to the team this year. Our drivers, Trackside Pass holders, partners, supporters and everyone working behind the scenes have played a part in making this possible. Seeing the confidence, knowledge and abilities of our team members develop throughout the season has been far more rewarding than any race result. We've learned an enormous amount in our first year, and we're already looking at how we can take everything we've achieved and build something even bigger for 2027. This is only the beginning. We're coming back with more cars, greater ambitions and a determination to push further up the grid.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2027
Although the 2026 season has officially concluded, work is already underway behind the scenes in preparation for 2027.
Pitlane Development is planning to expand its City Car Cup operation, introducing additional cars to the grid and creating even more opportunities for aspiring motorsport professionals to gain practical experience.
The team’s ambitions for next season extend beyond simply increasing the size of its operation. With a full season of experience behind us, the focus will be on improving competitiveness, refining team operations and challenging for stronger results throughout the championship.
The lessons learned in 2026 will form the foundation of the next stage of Pitlane Development’s growth.
To everyone who has supported the team throughout the year, thank you for being part of the journey.
One season complete. Bigger ambitions ahead. 2027 starts now.
