PITLANE DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCE LUKE SAWYER AS SNETTERTON DRIVER
Pitlane Development is pleased to announce that Luke Sawyer will step into the driving seat for the next round of the BRSCC City Car Cup at Snetterton, competing within the Student Motorsport category.
Luke will replace regular driver Reuben Lowe, who is unfortunately unable to attend the Snetterton race weekend. We hope to welcome Reuben back behind the wheel for the final round of the season at Silverstone.
A NEW OPPORTUNITY AT SNETTERTON
Despite the change in driver, the team’s focus remains firmly on continuing the progress made throughout the 2026 season and securing the strongest possible result at Snetterton.
Luke arrives with an exciting combination of real-world motorsport experience and a strong background in sim racing. Most notably, he has recently won the British University Sim Racing Championship, demonstrating the pace, consistency and racecraft that he will now look to translate into the Pitlane Development Peugeot 107.
He is also no stranger to the Student Motorsport paddock, having previously competed with NSCG Motorsport and Waltham College. Those appearances have already put Luke firmly on Pitlane Development’s radar.
Pitlane Development founder Ollie Walsh commented:
“Luke is somebody I’ve been keeping an eye on during his previous rounds with NSCG Motorsport and Waltham College. What stood out to me was his natural raw pace and ability to adapt to a new team environment so quickly. We will give Luke all the guidance and support at our disposal to help secure his biggest points haul of the season. We will of course miss Reuben this weekend but this also gives us the opportunity to give another driver a chance to shine.”
Luke had this to say regarding the announcement:
“I am very glad to be racing for Pitlane Development at Snetterton, our relationship so far has been great and I’m grateful to the team for having the trust in me for this coming weekend. I’m glad Rueben is okay after his incident at Cadwell and I am sure he’ll be back before we know it, but I shall be keeping his seat warm. I am extremely excited and positive about the weekend and would love a strong result to close out the year.”
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2027
Luke’s Snetterton appearance comes at an exciting time for Pitlane Development as preparations continue for the team’s planned expansion to a two-car City Car Cup entry for the 2027 season.
The additional entry will increase Pitlane Development’s capabilities within the Student Motorsport paddock while creating further opportunities for aspiring engineers and mechanics to gain meaningful trackside experience through the team’s development programmes.
For Luke, Snetterton represents an opportunity not only to deliver a strong result but also to demonstrate his potential as the team continues to evaluate options for its second 2027 race seat.
A MESSAGE FROM REUBEN
Following a significant incident during the Student Motorsport Competition’s first race at Cadwell Park in August, which resulted in irreparable damage to the #25 Pitlane Development Peugeot 107 driven by Reuben Lowe, Reuben has made the difficult decision that he will not be competing at Snetterton for rounds 12 – 15 on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of September. Instead, he and his management team will be focused on securing the funding to be back on the CityCar Cup grid for the season finale at Silverstone in October.
Reuben had this to say:
“I am desperately disappointed not to be able to join Pitlane Development and the Student Motorsport Competition paddock at Snetterton for our next race weekend in September, However, after lengthy discussions with my commercial partners and management team, we have decided that the best and most sensible way forward is to focus on preparing a car for Silverstone.”
“I wish the Pitlane Development Team the very best of luck in my absence and I look forward to re-joining Ollie and the squad in October. Thank you for all the support, and a big thanks to Luke for stepping in and keeping my seat warm! See you all soon.”
