SKILL DEVELOPMENT – HOW TO WRITE A MOTORSPORT COVER LETTER
How To Write A Motorsport Cover Letter:
A motorsport cover letter is a formal document that accompanies a job application or CV. It is typically sent to prospective employers and serves as an introduction to your qualifications, skills, and experiences relevant to the position you are applying for. The purpose of a cover letter is to provide a more detailed and personalised overview of your background and highlight why you are a suitable candidate for the job.
A well-written motorsport cover letter should be concise, professional, and tailored specifically to the job you are applying for. It allows you to expand upon the information provided in your resume and showcase your enthusiasm for the position. Here are some key elements commonly included in a cover letter:

Header:
Include your name, address, contact information, and the date of writing. Address the letter to a specific person if possible. If you don’t have a name, you can use a generic greeting such as “Dear Hiring Manager.”
Introduction:
Begin the letter with a brief introduction, mentioning the position you are applying for and how you learned about it.
Opening Paragraph:
Use one or two paragraphs to highlight your relevant skills, experiences, and achievements to date. Make connections between your qualifications and the job requirements. Emphasise what you can bring to the role and why you stand out from the crowd!
Closing Paragraph:
Express your enthusiasm for the opportunity and summarise why you believe you are a strong fit for the position. Mention availability for an interview or any additional documents that have been enclosed.
Closing and Signing Off:
End the letter with a professional closing, such as “Sincerely” or “Kind regards.” Leave space for your handwritten signature and type your full name below it.
Things To Remember When Writing A Motorsport Cover letter:
To do:
- Understand the company you are applying for. Research their history, achievements and ambitions. The hiring managers will be impressed to see you have done your background research.
- Showcase your skills that match the job description and give examples of how you applied those skills in a previous job role.
- Its good to include some anecdote’s from previous employment. Try not to waffle on or it will bore the hiring manager.
- Double check for grammar and spelling mistakes. Prior to sending it off, have a friends or family member have a skim through. You may only have 1 chance to get this right!
To Leave Out:
- Avoid sharing personal details that are not relevant to the job application. This includes your marital status, age, religious beliefs, or political affiliations.
- Unrelated jobs or experiences can distract from your qualifications and make the letter less focused.
- Avoid any negative remarks about previous employers, colleagues, or experiences. Maintain a positive and professional tone throughout the letter.
- Keep your cover letter focused on professional matters and avoid expressing personal opinions or discussing controversial topics.
- Avoid exaggerating your qualifications, skills, or experiences.
